Since the implementation of the Indian Electricity Act, 2003, electricity has been privatized in the country. There are multiple provisions for billings and electricity consumption units under different privatized electricity distributors.
The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board is a state-owned electricity regulation board operating within the state of Tamil Nadu in India, with thousands of consumers. The common mass often falls victim to cases of mishandling and bill manipulation from the end of TNEB.
Thus is it highly advisable to know against which circumstances a consumer can file a TNEB complaint in the Consumer Court to claim grievances in a legal way.
Reasons for Complaints
Any consumer can file a complaint against TNEB and claim for redressal of the following grievances to the Consumer Court:
TNEB Complaint Filing Process
Special courts for electricity grievances had been set up in India by the electricity department.
Apart from that, the Honorable Supreme Court passed the verdict that consumer forums can also hear electricity matters and provide an additional remedy to consumers.
Standing in queues for long hours and drafting complaints physically sum up to a waste of both time and money, and many cases even remain unresolved as well. It is a lengthy and complicated process that often results in impatience and irritation.

Good Afternoon This is the complaint regarding shifting of electric wires. The electric pole is situated almost in the middle of my land, As five connections are passing through my house and the electric wires are hanging carelessly on my house,My house is tiled roof house nobody takes the initiative to correct the wires by an electrician and those service wires was taken on my absence without my consent as I was in Delhi for more than 2decades I don't know how could TNEB workers can give service from my electric post without my consent and that too passing over exactly my house. I have given complaint in the respective EB office for the same. But no action has been taken so far. I am having small kids and it is becoming difficult for us during rainy and wind seasons as the chances of electric current pass is very high on those seasons which is too dangerous. Now I have started constructing new house on my land those electric wires are becoming obstacles. If any mishappenings occur during the construction of house due to those electric wires passing TNEB will be responsible for this. I have given complaint application on 30.3.2021 its been 5months now but no action has been taken so far . I request you to please help us in this regard as the EB workers and AE,ADE,EEare not supportive to us they just scold me whenever I go to the EB office by saying we have closed your petition. Hi Team, Billing calculated for 75 days instead 60 days due to that getting excess bill .After 500 units consumed,the amount will be high( get doubled).Usually in my home power consumed approximate 7.1 / day let say/assume round value 8 units/day -480 units/60 days.The amount for 480 units is 1070/ 2 months ,for 120days(4 months) means multiplied by 2 (1070*2=2140).So I supposed to pay totally 2140 for 4 months but as per yours calculation ,now bill amount is 1978/75 (530 units) days and the remaining 45 days,the amount(45*8=360 units)=710 ,hence I have to pay for the amount (1978 +710) = 2688/ 4 months by splitting into two instead of 2140 (1070*2), here I am losing 2688-2140= Rs 548.Please correct the bill amount for only 60 days,if not please suggest me to pay for 4 months totally on July reading by dividing into two bill (1070*2)

I’m from Tirunelveli Bharani Nagar Exte. (Cons. No.012-362-1651) The 3 face digital meter is running very fast. In Jan-Feb'21 (cycle) amount was Rs.800/- where in March-April'21 the reading has gone like rocket and the amount was showing Rs.3166/- . It's more than 4 time higher than what I was normally paying. I was using the same household items which was using in Jan-Feb month. Moreover, our house was locked around 25 days in April'21 (Reading has taken on 16/05/21). We are sure that there must be a fault in the EB meter. Kindly suggest a solution. Tried to contact EB office but they’re telling to file online complaint, not able to register for online on TNGEDCO website. This site is not working too. Your immediate action will help me to avoid exorbitant current charges which actually I am not using. Kindly help

Hi sir, I am Venkidusamy S P from Gobichetti Palayam Taluk, we are farming banana's in my land and 23/03/2022 lineman/foreman (3members) came to my land and cleaned entirely banana tree stump which is comes/not comes under power line (unable to upload the images) without any prior intimation and without my knowledge. Dear sir, I am residing at Khaja Malai, Trichy and I am the user of Electricity service connection No. 06222201766. I am using this service for more than 2 years and my maximum bill amount was rs.1400 in the month of June 2020. My usual bill amount would be between rs.400 to rs.800 only. Last june bill was raised as 1400 due to lock down imposed last and there were no reading taken in the month of April, so April bill paid as previous assessment. Then rhe difference has been regularised in June month bill. But all of a sudden, I was suprised to hear that bill amount is rs.2440 for June 2021. The following mistakes have been observed by me. 1. The reading was not taken in the month of June 2021. 2. Though the reading should be taken between 5th to 8th as per previous assessment, it was entered as 600units consumed as on 14th June. 3. The bill amount is equal to 3 or 4 times higher than my usual bills, which can't be borne in this pandemic situation. Kindly look into it and do the needful to get justice on this matter by revising my bill from abnormal amount to my normal usage bill.

Excess billing. They have sent us May 2019 electricity bill amount for this June. I have raised general complaint in tneb, complaint registered in Minnagam portal, called 1000s of times to all eb numbers, I have messaged them in whatsApp multiple times with the meter reading screenshot and to send revised bill Not even single response. Tneb has to be responsible and take necessary action. I would like to highly escalate this issue.

Hi sir/mam This is Anand from urapakkam for the past few days there was frequent power cuts in my area. I could understand that it may happen because of some wiring issues. But when I called the eb number no one is picking the calls. Previously this was happened i went direct to eb office and I saw one person sleeping there even the landline rangs. Today also I went directly to eb office I found 7 members sitting outside the office and talking. They don't care about the calls and sitting. When I asked why they are not picking up the calls they are saying we are line man so we will go for the complaints rectification so we can't pick the calls. If this happened incase of any emergency situations if some people's called the eb office what you people will do means they are saying at that time let's see about it. When I asked them they are saying we are working for 24hrs so we can't pick the calls. After I started questioning one person sat on the phones and attends all the calls. They said if they go for rectification till they came the phn calls won't be answered. So please look over it and take necessary actions. Because the staffs don't respond properly and they said if I want any information I the AE number is there you can call them don't ask us. When I called AE he didn't picked the call. The concern is please assign someone to pick the calls and ask them to answer politely. Location : Urapakkam

Hello, This is Srivarshaa. I'd like to let you know that, for the past two months, there has been no proper electricity in our area (Mogappair East) . The power goes on and off, low voltage, and we are totally disappointed. I have a brother at home who is studying his 12th class and I am a college student. We need wifi and electricity to attend our online classes. There is no current at nights also. We are not able to sleep properly. This issue highly affects our regular routine and affects our health in many ways. I have already called our area EB office and complained. But now they even refuse to take our calls. Hello team, We are running a medium scale spinning industry in Annur, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Our industry requires continuous power supply to run. That means if there is a power cut then it will take 1.5 to 2 hrs to reach its full production limit. In our area for the past one month there are very frequent power cuts at after noon time for which EB officials are not giving proper explanation. Per power cut we are facing a loss of 3500 to 5000. Please help us with what need to be done. Note: we can manage pre planned power cuts by adjusting shift timings and lunch timings.

Hi , In general my connection falls under 2months bill category. During march 2021 the reading taken on march 4th 2021 similarly it should be followed during may(current month) and the reading should have taken on or by 5th but they came late which resulted in 15 units extra and my unit charges crossed 505 and the billing too came around 1900rs. If they came in right time my units would have not crossed 505 and for the same I have video proof with date,unit and time. When I checked the eb office they dont give proper answer instead they are telling about their work load and lack of man power .but for their mistake I cannot lose 800rs .if it was taken on 6th may also i my units were under 505 units and the bill would be not more than 1100rs. Please do the needful

Dear sir/madam, My consumer no is 0914410066068. I usually pay my bills first 10days of alternative months. So likewise I paid on May 8th Rs.1970 (Receipt no. PGNICI16240756) using the TANGEDCO mobile app. And then during the May month itself I saw due of Rs. 1506 . I went to EB office to clarify they said they haven't received any payments, so had to pay the amount Rs. 1506(Receipt No. CHW441IA2S315)which is on May 31st. And they said the amount will be refunded to my account. But still July I didn't get any refund. How can I sort this out
