A Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a 10-digit alphanumeric number that is given to each individual who pays taxes and every company conducting financial transactions in India or abroad. Any tax-paying entity, whether an individual or an organization, must have a PAN card. Through the UTIITSL or NSDL websites, anybody can submit an application for a PAN card. Within 45 days of application, the PAN card hard copy will be delivered to the address provided on the Form 49A.

Once the card is created, the applicant can download an e-PAN card online, which can be used everywhere as a document of identity proof. However, it is not a document of nationality proof. This article will inform you about the easiest way to download a PAN card by using an internet-enabled smartphone, tablet, or PC. Before going deep into the process, let’s learn some basic facts about e-PAN cards.

What Is an e-PAN Card?

The electronic Permanent Account Number (e-PAN) card was first introduced on May 28, 2020. Before that, you could see the details of your PAN online, but you did not get the card online. An e-PAN card is the digital format of a physical PAN card. However, you will get vast details on the sheet of information. You can also download it in a PDF format (almost similar to an e-Aadhaar card) for further use. A copy of the card is also attached at the lower side of the e-PAN card. You can go for a PAN card download pdf to get a copy saved or printed from any digital printing shop. A QR code is included with the new PAN cards that contain the details of the e-PAN applicant.

If you want to get the details, you can download the “Enhanced QR code reader for PAN card” from the Play Store.

It is crucial to note that it is unlawful to have more than one PAN card. A fine of up to Rs. 10,000 may be imposed on a person who is found to have more than one PAN card.

What is available on the e-PAN card?

There is a lot of basic information available there. Let’s have a look at the information that it contains:

  • Permanent Account Number
  • Name
  • Father’s Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Gender
  • Photograph
  • Signature
  • QR code

What Are the Conditions to Apply for an e-PAN Card?

  • Only an Indian citizen can apply for an e-PAN card or physical PAN card.
  • He or she must be an individual taxpayer.
  • Must have an Aadhaar card.
  • His or her Aadhaar card details must be up to date.
  • The mobile number must be registered with the Aadhaar card.

How to Download e-PAN Card Government Portals?

Your physical PAN card is now available in digital format as an e-PAN card. A virtual PAN card can easily be downloaded from recommended government web portals: NSDL or UTIISL. Both portals will allow you to download with some terms and conditions.

You have to keep in mind that a PAN card download in PDF format will be possible with some terms and conditions. If you applied for or modified the card through the NSDL portal, you will get the download option through NSDL, not from the UTIISL portal. It will show the following message:

“Dear Applicant, As on record, your latest application was processed through NSDL. Hence, you may apply through Change Request mode at UTIITSL to avail yourself of this facility of ePAN or ePAN along with a physical laminated card. To apply, use this link: https://www.pan.utiitsl.com/panonline_ipg/forms/csfPan.html/csfPreForm Or you may download ePAN by visiting the NSDL site.”

However, if you filed or modified your PAN card details through UTIISL, you will be eligible to download it from the latter website.

What document do you need to keep in hand to download the e-PAN card?

  • If you want to download an e-PAN card from any of the portals, you need to keep an “Acknowledgement Number” in hand. When you apply for a PAN card for the first time, you will get this number on successful submission of the application.
  • If you already have a PAN card, you have to keep that number at hand.
  • The NSDL site asks for the AADHAAR card number to submit a request for an e-PAN card.
  • You must learn the date of birth to fill out the niche.

You have to select either “Acknowledgement Number” or “PAN” when you choose your option to download an e-PAN card.
