If you are a transporter and are already registered under GST, you do not need to apply for a transporter ID separately. However, if you are not registered for GST, you must obtain a transporter ID. This article will show you how to apply for a transporter ID.
A transporter ID is a one-of-a-kind registration number assigned to a transporter.
E-way bill laws and requirements require a transporter to create an e-way bill if the consignment value exceeds Rs. 50,000 and the supplier or receiver is not registered.
A transporter must be either registered under GST as a regular taxpayer or registered under an E-way bill to submit an E-way bill.
Consignors or consignees preparing an e-way bill must provide transporter identification.
E-way bills can be created using the vehicle number, however, it is preferable to supply the transporter ID if the vehicle number is unknown at the time of transport or if the vehicle is changed during the journey.
