GST Taxation on Toys and Games

Toys, sports and games are everyone’s favourite.  It falls under HSN code chapter 95 of GST commodity tariff schedule.  However, it changes as per different GST slabs for different kinds of toys available in the market, as per the Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017. It is classified into multiple tax slabs. The GST Act fixed the GST rate for all products in India under five rates of 0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%. The GST taxation rate for toys and sporting goods fall under 12% or 18% or 28%. 

This article talks about GST rates levied on several types of toys, games and sports accessories. Let us look at the updated GST rate list as per the Government circular and a businessman should stay updated with the running rates from time to time.

The tax rates for different category of toys and sports items are:

 

  1. Toys like tricycles, scooters, pedal cars, etc. – 12%
  2. Electronic Toys like tricycles, scooters, pedal cars, etc. – 18%
  3. Playing cards and board games, like Ludo, etc. – 12%
  4. Video games consoles and Machines – 28%
  5. Festive, carnival, or other entertainment articles – 28%
  6. Sports goods other than articles and equipment – 12%
  7. Swimming pools and padding pools – 18%
  8. Equipment for general physical exercise, gymnastics, athletics – 28%
  9. Fishing rods, fishing hooks, and other fishing equipment – 12%
  10. Swings, shooting galleries, and other fairground amusements – 28%
