Additionally, it is also required by the startup business, company directors, designated partners in case of LLP or by professionals like Chartered Accountants or Company Secretaries. As, DSC is also made mandatory for filing important government forms like GST, Income tax, etc.

What is a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)?

DSC is a secured digital key that came into use to reduce cost and time which also contains details of the person holding the Digital Signature Certificate such as name, country, email address, pin code, the name of the Authority that has issued the DSC and the date of issuance of the DSC. 

However, the physical presence of the Authorised Signatory is not required and the customers are assured of the documents received as it also reduces the scope of receiving a forged document.

Who are the DSC Certifying Authorities?

Ministry of Company Affairs has appointed the Certifying Authority to grant a few individuals or agencies to issue the license and rights to DSC. According to Section 24 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, the IT Ministry has recognized the following entities as licensed DSC Certifying Authorities:

What is the validity of DSC?

The applicant can either go to the Certifying authority with the original documents or get them online. However, the validity of DSCs ranges from one to two years and once the DSC is expired it has to be renewed while the process of renewal of DSC is the same as that of DSC registration on the Ministry of Company Affairs portal.
